The Alberta Society of Artists’ (ASA) mandate is to foster and promote the visual arts in Alberta, to improve recognition for Alberta artists on a provincial, national and global basis, and to contribute to the well being of the Alberta arts community. Through education and exhibition, the ASA provides the opportunity for the province’s visual artists to grow and share their vision with the public.
Each year, the ASA offers Alberta high school students in grades 10 – 12 the opportunity to explore their artistic potential and further their creative development under the guidance of expert instructors through the ASA Scholarship program. This year the ASA is collaborating with Visual Arts Alberta (VAA) to offer even more! Fourteen scholarships to Red Deer College’s SummerScapes 2012 program, a value of $445+GST per scholarship, are now offered. The ASA and VAA will award 3 or more to Edmonton area students, 3 or more to Calgary area students and 5 or more to students from the remaining Alberta school districts. The scholarships provide the cost of tuition, meals, accommodation and art supplies for the SummerScapesprograms. Iin addition, the ASA Edmonton Branch will select one Edmonton student for the Thelma Manarey Drawing Award($100 gift certificate) from the entries received.
This is a unique opportunity for young Alberta artists, your students! The SummerScapes 2012 program runs between August 05th and August 11th, 2012. The week features an intensive, studio based exploration of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, glass bead making and animation supplemented by visiting artists’ lectures and opportunities to explore different media.
